FIELD
UPDATE:
·
The field was reported to be in general good
condition, but will need to be reseeded in some areas.
We still plan to work on the unfinished end of the field to extend our
flying area.
·
It was noted that the field needs to be mowed
regularly now. Holly F. again
requested that names be sent to him by email to put on the web-site mowing list
for 2008. Call Holly to get a
substitute if you cannot mow on your scheduled date.
Everyone needs to sign up if possible.
·
James S. reported that the mower still needs
some repairs and the deck belt replaced. He
will get with John Trobaugh to schedule the necessary repairs, which have
already been approved.
·
James S. will take care of having the flag
pole rope replaced.
·
The club agreed that contents in the field box
are piling up. All unnecessary
items will be moved to the shed.
·
Del H. will check on the gas level for the
grill prior to the fly in at the field.
·
James S. noted that we will not move the
canopy, but that the wind damage to the canopy still needs to be repaired on our
work day which has been rescheduled for 5-10-08, the Saturday
after our next meeting.
·
James S. reported that the new FedEx building
is well underway, but we have heard nothing more about how it might affect our
field. There is also the ongoing
discussion about the truck stop expanding on the other end of the field, with no
new news on that subject. Members
are still encouraged to suggest alternate flying sites for consideration.
·
Rebuilding the two damaged pilot stands is
still scheduled for our work day.
·
NOTE: Our field work
day is rescheduled for 5-10-08.
James S. will get a spiker and seeds.

OLD
BUSINESS:

members are still getting together and doing some “stick building.”
We are currently meeting at Jim Casey’s house at 6:30 PM on Monday
nights. Bob Metzger has offered his
home for a later build. Other
locations and dates will be discussed at our following meetings.
This is a great way for club members to get together, other than our
meetings, and learn new ideas and techniques.
Come join the fun even if you are not building.
See James S. for the plans.
A
“Club Trainer” is on the list for a later project, with Chris Kirovac of
Cookeville Raceway and Hobbies volunteering to supply the wood necessary for the
build. Plans will need to be
considered for this project.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Doug
G. mentioned that all the club hats have been sold. A motion was made and approved
for Maryann S. to order a dozen to have on hand to sell.
Gene
H. mentioned that several individuals had been seen flying at the field, who
were not members or with members. We
are currently unable to lock the gate again, due to the camper in the parking
lot, so another fence may have to be erected at the entrance to the flying area.
No decision was made on this date, but will need to be addressed.
Mention
was made that the Port-A-Potty is close to being in need of servicing.
Maryann will arrange for services prior to our field fly.
Greg
Garrison, of G & L Hobbies, provided our “Show and Tell” for the
meeting, demonstrating the fiberglass molds and molding process for his Cessna
310, which is his latest “build.”
It will be an awesome plane!
James

together, have a good time, and fly, in addition to the weekends.
But of course, any day is a good day for flying!

UCRCS’s
regular monthly Club meeting was held February 14th in IWC’s Conf
Room and was short and sweet, just like the Holiday.
Several arrived a little early to help with cooking & meal
preparation, with all the efforts resulting in a great dinner!
Many thanks to Del Hef. for the great meal.
We missed you last month!
Attendance was low, due to the holiday, but President James Smith
welcomed new member, Scott McQuiston, who was able to attend his first meeting.
The
meeting was lead by President James Smith starting with a welcome to all
attending, and thanks to Bob Mackie for the use of the facilities, even though
he could not be present.
The IWC Conf Room continues to be a great meeting
environment. A
sad note was recognized in the passing of Delton Dyal, who had shown an interest
in flying and the Club, but who had not been able to participate due to health
issues. The Club
continues to thank G & L Hobbies and Cookeville Raceway and Hobbies for

EVENTS
PLANNING:

FIELD
UPDATE:
A
work day is planned at the field, which will be on Saturday, March 15th,
following our next Club meeting, which is on 3-13-08.
Hopefully we will have a great day and a good turnout, as we have quite a
few projects on the list. We
need to get the field ready for upcoming events and our April meeting, which
will mark our return to meetings at the flying field.
To
do list:
1.
The canopy needs to be repaired, after the wind damage.
2.
At
least one of the pilot stands / field guards needs to be repaired or replaced,
as another one was damaged in recent winds.
3.
The
rope on the flag pole needs to be replaced.
4.
Parts
of the field need to be reseeded.
James S. and Buddy Q. will arrange for grass seed and for the spreader to
sow the seeds.
5.
Ideas
were also discussed concerning adding spread spectrum to our field box, without
having to purchase a larger one.
All
club members were reminded that Holly F. needs names for the field mowing
schedule for this year. Just
email Holly with your dates and he will put your name on the web list.
Doug

had to spend time at the hospital, with his wife, and was unable to prepare his
usual gourmet meal tonight.
James S. noted that Gene Hankins is our
current Safety Officer and our only CD. Ron
Serafin has also agreed to be a Safety Officer for 2008.
Bob M. states that he will complete his application to become a CD.
Gene reminded everyone to check their batteries, this time of year, to
avoid accidents. Doug G. noted that flying needs to be done from the South end
of the field, to avoid flying over the nearby residence.
Jim Casey attended the MTRCCA meeting, and
they have requested that we provide them with a copy of our scheduled events for
2008 to be posted on their website. He
reported that our club would be receiving a portion of the end-of-year profit
sharing disbursement from MTRCCA. Active
participation by our club in their events is encouraged for a larger share of
the profits. Bob M. noted that we
may host an MTRCCA Club event next year, which is rotated among the
participating clubs. Thanks go to
Jim C. and Bob M. for attending these meetings, so that we may benefit from
their website and support. Any
member is welcome to attend. The

UCRCS’s
EofY Banquet was held at the Social Security office in Ckvl on December 13th.
We had a wonderful Turkey & Dressing meal with all the trimmings
catered by Belle Acres Restaurant. With
some ham on the side and pumpkin & pecan pies to finish things off……we
all had to be carried out to our cars! Many
thanks for a great coordination effort by BuddyQ’s and wife Donna.
There were 25 Club Members and Guests present.
The
Banquet started off with our meal and the enjoyment of watching a “Thru the
Year” picture slide-show (thx’s HollyF).
It brought back many fond memories of flying days and even some pictures
of planes that are “no longer with us”!
After our meal, we presented gifts to all our Guests.
DougG then lead the Group thru a little session of “Dirty Santa
Gift-Giving”. As the gifts were
selected, critiqued, bringing enjoyment to their new owners, then only to be
taken away by the next lucky receiver! We
had a lot of fun and most ended up with something they can enjoy and use.
We finished off the Banquet portion with some great raffle give-away’s,
complements of Ckvl Raceway. We
want to thank ChrisK for his generosity and appreciate his support of the hobby.
The
meeting portion of the night then started with President Bob Mackie conducting
the last Club meeting of 2007.
